Rod Cooper, Esq, has been involved with intellectual property all his professional life. His experience with intellectual property as an asset ranges across the laboratory, athletic courts and fields, studios, courtrooms, and boardrooms. He spends his days working in the areas of strategic investment and counseling concerning technology and entertainment, film production, professional athletes and marketing, and enforcement and licensing of intellectual property. Recently he established and serves as the managing director of Legato 4K Technology Investment Fund and has been involved in his private investment arm, Phalanx Investments, LLC, for the past ten years. Because of his passion for film and story-telling, he is the president of the feature film production company TexaCali Productions, LLC, currently in preproduction for two feature films. As a licensed attorney, he has licensed and litigated all types of intellectual property matters for the past two decades. He has practiced law with a few select firms, including the international firm of Sidley &Austin, the trial firm of Nix Patterson & Roach LLP as lead partner for the intellectual property section, and at his own firm, the Cooper Law Group, PC. During his legal career, he has handled a number of significant intellectual property cases for both plaintiffs and defendants involving settlements, licenses, and jury verdicts worth several billions of dollars, including successful jury verdicts in two of the larger intellectual property cases in the world. He has lectured on intellectual property issues in multiple industries on several occasions, including at Stanford and Georgetown and at various professional organizations. He also is a member of the United States Patent Bar and has served as president of the Dallas Chapter of the Licensing Executive Society (receiving an Outstanding Chapter Award under his leadership), a member of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce Technology Board, a founder and instructor for the Professional Development Series presented by the Licensing Executive Society, and a board member at Stanford University’s prestigious think tank, the Hoover Institution. He additionally chairs the advisory board for Hoover IP2, an intellectual think tank[?] addressing policy and legal issues regarding intellectual property while also serving as a sports cabinet member for the University of Colorado (UC), Boulder. Rod is a graduate of the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University (SMU) where he served as an articles editor, two-term president of the SMU Intellectual Property Organization, and a recognized member of the Barristers. Before entering a career surrounded by intellectual property, he received honors in the degrees of neuroscience (BA, UC, Boulder) and molecular biology (MA, UC, Denver/School of Medicine). At UC he was funded by the Howard Hughes Biomedical Research Institute as an undergraduate; he coauthored two papers in the journals of Brain Research and Peptides.
